French braces indicate sarcasm in speech |
![]() |
It's possible that you use some sort of chat program on the Internet, be it IRC, AOL, Instant Messenging, or some lame webchat thing. There is no good indicator of sarcasm in typed text. While a statement may seem obviously sarcastic to you, your friend on the other end may not catch on and might take your statement seriously. Tone of voice or facial expressions that indicate sarcasm in real life are not present to assist you online. After a number of misunderstandings, multiple questions of "are you being sarcastic?", and seeing it as typing (sarcasm) at the end of the line to be too much work / killing dramatic effect, I have come up with a solution for this problem; it lies within the french braces { }. Simply enclose your sarcastic remark in french braces. It's quick, it's easy, and saves you from the hassles of misunderstanding and the dangers of assumption. Pass the message on to your friends:
{Yeah, Joz isn't psycho anymore}
{I thought she was hot from the day i layed eyes on her}
{Microsoft is cool}
{someday i wish i could be in a boyband}
{it's all about beastiality}
